It is our great honor today (18 May 2026) to invite Prof. Dr. Tsai-fang Chen to give us a talk on the topic: “AI and Job Displacement: Implications for the WTO .” Prof. Dr. Chen examines the growing impact of artificial intelligence on global labor markets and international trade governance. As AI technologies increasingly transform manufacturing, services, and professional sectors, existing WTO legal frameworks face significant challenges in addressing large-scale employment displacement and cross-border economic disruptions. The presentation explores whether current WTO agreements—including the GATT, GATS, and the Safeguards Agreement—remain adequate in responding to the structural consequences of AI-driven economic change.

Our speaker further discusses the legal and policy gaps within the multilateral trading system and proposes a more worker-centered approach to international trade governance. By connecting AI governance, labor protection, and WTO reform, this talk offers timely insights into one of the most important emerging issues in international economic law and global economic policy.
